Technical Details
NASA launches its largest internal reform in years. The new head of the agency, Jared Isaacman, has decided to seriously rebuild the agency's structure: combine key departments, redistribute leadership, and accelerate space programs. Image: NASA NASA directly says that they want to reduce bureaucracy and make the agency more «operational» in the face of growing competition in space — primarily from China and private companies like SpaceX.
Context and Background
The main change concerns manned spaceflight. NASA is again combining lunar programs, International Space Station projects, and future commercial orbital stations into a single direction — Human Spaceflight Mission Directorate. In essence, the agency is returning to a more centralized management model, abandoning the division introduced several years ago.
Industry Impact
Now, one leadership will be responsible for: the Artemis program; the ISS program; commercial stations in orbit; future lunar bases and infrastructure. At the same time, the agency is combining aviation research, space technology, and advanced development into a new structure — Research and Technology Mission Directorate. It is there that the most «technological» NASA projects will be concentrated, including nuclear space systems.
