Samsung May Change the Structure of its Galaxy S Lineup

TL;DR

  • The new Galaxy S27 Pro model will occupy an intermediate position
  • It will have almost all the characteristics of the Ultra model, but in a more compact body

Why it matters

The change in the structure of the Galaxy S lineup may affect the smartphone market

Technical Details

Samsung may change the structure of its flagship Galaxy S lineup: the Galaxy S27 series, expected in early 2027, will include a new model, the Galaxy S27 Pro. According to the Korean resource ETNews, the new Pro version will occupy an intermediate position, having almost all the characteristics of the Ultra model, but in a more compact body. Thus, the future lineup of Samsung flagships will look like this: Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, and Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Context and Background

The Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to be equipped with a 6.47-inch OLED display, making it much more compact than the Ultra model, but slightly larger than the base Galaxy S27. The Galaxy S27 Pro is attributed to the Privacy Display feature, which is currently only implemented in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, as well as a camera with sensors with a resolution of 200, 50, and 50 MP — the same camera that is currently attributed to the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Industry Impact

The appearance of the Pro model may be a response to the weak demand for the experimental Edge series: Samsung is essentially betting on a «compact Ultra» without the S Pen stylus to attract users who need flagship characteristics in a smaller size. The main characteristics of the Galaxy S27 Pro include:

  • 6.47-inch OLED display
  • Privacy Display feature
  • Camera with sensors with a resolution of 200, 50, and 50 MP
