Tesla Model Y Electric Vehicle Recall
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall of 14,575 Tesla Model Y electric vehicles due to a problem that cannot be fixed with a software update. According to the recall report, Model Y vehicles produced between November 17, 2024, and April 21, 2026, may be missing a certification sticker with information on the date of manufacture, maximum permissible vehicle mass, and recommended tire pressure.
Cause and Consequences
The certification sticker is usually located on the inside of the driver's side door or on the side pillar and contains information on the vehicle's maximum load capacity, recommended tire pressure, and date of manufacture. According to Tesla's estimates, about 45 percent of the recalled Model Y vehicles are missing this sticker.
Solution
The recall report also notes that Tesla has already fixed the automatic scanning tool that allowed vehicles to be shipped without the sticker, and factory workers have begun manually checking for its presence. Unlike most Tesla issues, which are resolved with software updates, owners of recalled vehicles will need to physically bring their Model Y vehicles in for inspection to check for the sticker and add it if necessary.
