Gigabay for Starship

TL;DR

  • Gigabay construction in Texas and Florida
  • Factories will have a height of 116 m and an area of 75,700 sq. m

Why it matters

Gigabay will be one of the largest structures in the world and will enable the production of 1,000 Starships per year

Technical Details

The construction of two massive Gigabay factories for Starship is ongoing at the Starbase spaceport in Texas and on Roberts Road near Cape Canaveral in Florida. Four cranes are working simultaneously at the Starbase site, accelerating the assembly of the giant structure's dark walls. Meanwhile, the Florida Gigabay has reduced the number of main cranes to two, but is actively using additional cranes for upper assembly and cladding.

Background and Context

It was previously reported that Gigabay will have the following main dimensions: building height - 116 m, length - 110 m, width - 130 m, useful internal height - up to 115 m, working area - about 75,700 sq. m, and total internal volume - approximately 1.3 million cubic meters. These parameters allow Gigabay to accommodate several Starships at the same time. The construction is planned to be completed in 2026.

Industry Impact

«This will be one of the largest structures in the world, I think, by some parameters, it will be the largest building in the world. It is designed to produce 1,000 Starships per year», — Elon Musk previously said. In 2025, SpaceX conducted 5 test launches of the Starship system (Super Heavy booster + Starship spacecraft).
