Sony unveils its latest TVs ahead of TCL merger

TL;DR

  • Sony Bravia 9 II and Bravia 7 II
  • TCL Electronics Holdings
  • Sony TVs

Why it matters

The new Sony TVs represent the company's latest efforts before merging with TCL, which will combine their strengths to create more competitive products.

Technical details

Sony Group has presented two premium TVs, Bravia 9 II and Bravia 7 II, which are expected to be the last models from the Japanese company before its home entertainment business merges with TCL Electronics Holdings next year.

TV specifications

Bravia 9 II features a LCD panel with Sony's True RGB lighting technology, which uses tiny individually controlled red, green, and blue LEDs. This enhances color reproduction. With Sony's RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro technology, each LED is controlled with high precision, increasing brightness and reducing glare.

Sound system

Sony's new comprehensive sound system uses a soundbar as the central channel and separate front left and right speakers. This configuration aims to provide a wider soundstage.

Merger with TCL

As per the previous agreement, TCL has agreed to pay 75.4 billion yen ($473 million) for a 51% stake in the new joint venture, which will manage Sony's global home entertainment business, including Bravia TVs. From April 2027, the new company will start producing TVs under Sony and Bravia brands, integrating TCL's display technologies.
