Background and Context
Arkhangelsk Oblast has been designated as the first operator of Russia's Il-114-300 regional aircraft, a move that will accelerate its integration into northern air routes. According to the Russian government, this decision aims to test the aircraft in extreme conditions where it is expected to outperform aging An-24 models and foreign ATR-72 aircraft.
Technical Specifications
The Il-114-300 is a regional turboprop passenger aircraft designed for 68 passengers with a range of up to 1,400 km. It is equipped with Russian-made TV7-117ST-01 turboprop engines and optimized for operation on short and unpaved runways. The aircraft is fully equipped with domestic systems, making it self-sufficient in regions with limited access to foreign components.
Industry Impact
Replacing the aging An-24 and An-26, as well as foreign ATR-72 and Bombardier Dash 8 models, will reduce maintenance costs and improve the reliability of regional air transport. Certification tests in the Arctic confirm the aircraft's readiness to operate in extreme temperatures, a critical requirement for northern regions. The project is implemented under the auspices of the Il company and UAC with support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
